I had the absolute pleasure of meeting the man behind the brand, William Ayers, at Milan Fashion Week in the Summer of ’16.
WILLIAM is a bespoke fashion label based in Downtown Los Angeles, creating exclusive accessories. WILLIAM strives to put environmental consciousness at the forefront of all of its designs, working to support local craftsmen, artists, designers, and businesses. All designs and manufacturing are handmade in Los Angeles. A percentage of every sale is donated to the Institute of International Education, to offer creative education for future generations.
WILLIAM presented their latest collection of hand-crafted luxury goods for the fashion world elite this Spring of 2017 at Paris Fashion Week.
I was intrigued by WILLIAM’s creative execution so much so that I had surprised him & his team with a cover feature & editorial spread in August ’16 on The 7th Magazine!
The WILLIAM AW 2017 Collection, titled F U S C I N U L A, is extracted from the latin word for fork. Being inspired by the most primal hierarchy of need, this collection looks deep into nature and human existence. The collection combines the most precious skins of crocodile, stingray, pony hair and furs; connecting with nature, and the passions within every human.
“My travels around the world offer constant inspiration to my work with each collection inspired from a multitude of different visual inputs; from how the texture on the side of a building looks in shadow, to how the layers of a painting at the Stedelijk Museum creates depth energy.
The inspiration for the SS2017 Collection was STRUCTURES. Derived from the Organic and Rectilinear structures and patterns that exist in the natural world and the constructed world. The signature style and basis of design for WILLIAM is always rooted in dichotomies.
This collection was created with two (2) patterns, and four (4) color ways, and the combinations within these two elements. Each pattern was handpainted onto luxury leather and then handcrafted in Downtown Los Angeles into wallets, bags, cases and accessories. The silk collection had the pattern printed onto charmeuse silk and the then hand sewn in Downtown Los Angeles.” – William.
