Sheereen talks about fashion and being a creative consultant
Sheereen, a creative consultant with an interest in fashion, showcases through Instagram and her personal blog her personal taste. She is able to present different styles in unique ways. She talks about her profession below.
What is it about fashion that most interests you?
I could talk about fashion all day and night! I breathe fashion and literally dream about it, and I can’t imagine my life without it. Fashion makes me happy, confident, strong, and it helps me express my mood and emotions. If I were to admit to being addicted to one thing in life, it would be fashion. I can’t get enough of it! Whether it’s vintage, new, or old, everything about it excites me. What’s most interesting to me is the influence fashion has on our lives without us even noticing it. For example, we can accomplish great things when we’re dressed for the part because we feel beautiful and powerful.
What got you started as a creative director?
I have two fashion degrees, one from The Art Institute and one from FIDM. Those led me to start a fashion Instagram account in 2012 while I was still in school. After completing my degrees, I launched a high-end contemporary womenswear clothing line based in Los Angeles. I created two successful collections but then had to put it on hold because my husband and I moved out of state. At that time, I got active again on the Instagram account and became more focused on being a creative director for other brands. I started sharing my work with the world via my personal blog and my Instagram account.
What are some places that you have been to that have shown a unique sense of fashion?
Every place I have visited has a uniqueness to their fashion. From a designer/creative director perspective, I find a unique fashion sense in every place I travel to, but of course, Paris, Monaco, and New York are some of the top places
that have very distinct, unique senses of fashion.
The photos on your Instagram have a similar look to them. What is it about that style that is so appealing?
What you see on my Instagram feed is my unique way of presenting myself and my personality to the world. My brand, so to speak. I create and style my content in a way that allows my audience to get a better feel for who I really am. I tend to favor a classic look with a modern twist. It’s those little details that really stand out in fashion. I also have my unique ways of posing for each photo, and I always use a similar filter to create a cohesive look.
What are some fashion brands that you find to stand out from the crowd?
One of my all-time favorite brands is Simone Rocha. Her designs always stand out from the crowd. The Row has a very minimalist, yet classic, style that also stands out among others. Ellery, Rosie Assoulin, and Nanushka are others that come to mind. I could go on and on because there are many — many — talented designers, but these are just a handful of my favorites that always stand out.
What is some valuable fashion advice that you typically give?
I always advise people to invest in quality timeless pieces that can be worn over and over again. There’s a reason certain styles are referred to as “classic.” It’s about the quality, not the quantity.
What plans do you have for the future?
Ahh, where should I start?! I have so many plans and luckily, I’ve been able to start working on some of them already.
One of my biggest plans is to keep growing my social media presence and use it to help change the world for the better. I aim to get more involved with sustainable fashion brands and put a stop to waste in the fashion industry.
I also eventually want to collaborate with the fashion brands I really love to create capsule collections and use the income from those sales to start a fundraising organization for children in need.
I have a lot of other things planned as well, but I can’t talk about them quite yet. Maybe in our next interview, I can tell you more.
