Spring / Summer 2018
Marc Jacobs Beauty Close Out New York Fashion Week
Marc Jacobs closed New York Fashion Week with their Spring/Summer 2018 show held at the Park Avenue Armory. It-Girls Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid and Taylor Hill were seen on the runway alongside girl-of-the-moment, and the face of Marc Jacobs’ new Daisy fragrance, Kaia Gerber following in her model mothers footsteps and closing the show. Cindy Crawford could be seen from the front row to watch her daughter alongside Emily Ratajkowski, Shea Marie and Nicki Minaj.
Spring’s naively abstract, redrawn, exaggerated prints and patterns were realized in fabrics of various weights – a melange of nylons mixed with silk and synthetic satins, jerseys and twills. Our take on ‘real’ sportswear embraces a super-bold glowing-sunshine palette, matching from top to bottom while clashing together from look to look. Bags take cues from the utilitarian. From flight bags and fanny packs to top load duffels, shrunken and blown out of proportion in printed twill and satin. Shoes range from an ordinary flip flop and a techy-sporty sole to an exotic, embellished evening baboosh, all adorned with fringe, tinsel, jewels, gems, pompoms and tassels. Inspired by Kate’s legendary Met Ball look, Sofia’s desire to have her portrait taken in a turban, and Katie’s instinct to take the girls from last season and ‘turn them out’, the turbans are magnificently draped and twisted with our printed scarves by the masterful wizard milliner, Stephen Jones. Quietly observing, capturing and interpreting the process from styling, sewing and showing is the legendary and inimitable photographer, Stephen Shore.
