“It makes me happy to know I make my body happy and contribute to my well-being as well as the well-being of our planet and the animals by simply making healthy food choices.”
Living a healthy lifestyle is not as easy as you think. Finding recipes that taste good but are also following those dietary restrictions is next to impossible… Except Laura- AKA Fruit Fairy makes it even better than possible. Her blog covers every food choice a vegan could ever want! Here is what she said when we sat down for an interview-
When did you decide you wanted to get involved with food?
When I was 13 I discovered my love for cooking with pancakes. Back then I was so obsessed with pancakes I ate them several times a week. Soon after that through cooking with my mum I learned some other kitchen hacks and recipes. I moved out at the age of 18, so I had to cook for myself. I never considered making food for myself an issue because I was used to cooking for myself from back home. 2 years later I turned vegan and was consequently forced to prepare my own food.
When did you start your food blog? Why did you decide to call it “Fruit Fairy”?
I started my blog in March 2016 as a platform to refer people to if they ask me for recipes. I chose fruit fairy to match my Instagram name “laurafruitfairy”. Sometimes people tell me I look like a fairy and I’ve always liked fairies, fantasy movies and books, nature, psy fashion, and so forth. Fruit is my favourite food and I could easily live off fruit only! So I combined the two words fruit & fairy to create a unique name.
You travel very often. What impact does that have on your food blog?
I don’t travel as often as I would like. The few times I’ve lived abroad have definitely impacted my cooking, though. Especially my 4-month stay in China, where I fell in love with the strong flavours and different kinds of vegetables. Every time I go abroad, I try to soak up as much inspiration as possible. On my last trip to Tenerife I ate papayas every day and tried cactus fruit, which I picked from a cactus myself. Discovering new foods is the most fun part of traveling!
What do you love most about the vegan life? What made you decide to switch to being a vegan?
I love being able to eat as much as I like knowing it won’t make me feel sick or gain weight.
It makes me happy to know I make my body happy and contribute to my well-being as well as the well-being of our planet and the animals by simply making healthy food choices. It’s a win-win situation!
Where do you see your blog headed in the future?
I want to leverage more power to my blog in terms of readers and posts. I love Instagram but the current algorithm changes scare me. I don’t want to rely on a platform I can’t control. On my own blog I have full control over highlighting posts and directing readers. In the future, I will definitely write blog posts more regularly and expand into other categories such as travel, personality development and lifestyle. I love food but I think I can help my readers with more than just recipes.
