“Powerful women are women who are positive, encouraging, responsible and never afraid to take to challenges, work towards their goals and chase their dreams. I want show my support and admiration to these women by creating amazing garments for them to make them look and feel more powerful and stunning than they already are.”
Haus of Song is reinventing design. Using only basic colors like black and white, they have changed the scheme of fashion. Creating amazing designs that every person can admire, they have pushed the boundaries, while at the same time bring a comfortable style. This is what they told us in our exclusive interview with them-
Where does the name Haus of Song come from? What does it mean to you?
The name HAUS OF SONG has many meanings.
HAUS means HOUSE in German, House of Song defines class and timelessness of the brand. The word HAUS also means the most amazing, the best in English. It’s an everyday encouragement to ourselves and a motto to do our best and thrive, as well as a promise to our customers to always provide the best quality of service and product that we could. The word also signifies edge and attitude of the brand, and demonstrates our diversity as well as multiculturalism.
Coming from a music background, SONG is a tribute to to my family, especially my father whom and I shared a strong bond through music, as well my fiancé/ business partner Tony Song and his family.
Together, HAUS OF SONG could be interpret as the Best of Song, a metaphor of women’s lives – Through any struggles of life, we will persevere and find our shine. We are many and we are one.
Is there anyone in the fashion world who inspires you?
Designer wise, yes, definitely. There’s a lot actually, but my all time top two inspirations are for sure Yves Saint Laurent and McQueen. YSL to me is a genius, he basically innovated and redefined class and edge in his time and he’s so charismatic. With Alexander McQueen, he inspired me so dearly, especially during my teens. I love how rebellious he was, his creative vision, there’s just so much that that I love about him, he is simply one of a kind, a true artist.
You focus on the concept of powerful women, and deem them the wearers of your label. Talk to us a little more about that.
I had lots of strong female role models in my life and I came to realise that powerful women can’t be categorised into a singular type or style of women. Powerful women to me is not only about women with confidence or being successful. Powerful women are women who are positive, encouraging, responsible and never afraid to take to challenges, work towards their goals and chase their dreams. I want show my support and admiration to these women by creating amazing garments for them to make them look and feel more powerful and stunning than they already are.
Explain to us your Class Rebellious collection. What inspired this collection?
Classy Rebellious collection is my personal favourite. It’s a rework on styles that I had created as a high school junior, when I was very much submerged in the hip-hop music, dance movies and the whole street culture, in order to suit my current lifestyle and for those who are like me. I want to feel cosy and comfortable while staying cool and stylish when I’m working in the studio and travelling. Especially with flights to the other side of the world, because our seasons are completely opposite, so I’ve created these diverse casual wears in the Class Rebellious collection to makes life so much easier. I could simply remove a sleeve or zip up the side seams as I like, instead of carrying change of clothes with me on and off the flight along with the 50 other things that I’m also carrying. Made with 100% premium cotton fabric, it is great for the skin, it’s comfortable, organic, breathable, absorbent and in heavier weight, it’s completely wind and cold proof.
You seem to stick to basic colors like black and white. Why do you do this?
I love to work with basic colours, especially black and white. They are undoubtedly the essentials of our lives.
When wearing a basic colour, it makes you look neat, polished, sophisticated. It becomes the perfect backdrop for any coloured items you add to highlight your look. When black and white is clashed, it’s prestige, class, edge and attitude. They are very powerful colours.
Tell us a little more about your Edith Collection. It seems very different from your other collections.
Edith Collection is a soft welcoming collection for me, as I’m prepared to take HAUS OF SONG to the next level and entering a new phase of my life as my wedding is being planned for next year. The collection showcases a different side of Australian summer. Inspired by Australian botanics and our beautiful summer garden parties, where there’s cocktails, fine music and great company. The collection captures the fine balance between femininity and sophistication with a hint of romance. Made in Australia with sustainably sourced and produced silk satin and made-to- order feather textured fabric, the collection consists of well-crafted styles for occasions from everyday high street casuals to high-end restaurant dining for two.
Where do you see your brand in the future?
We’re working on letting more and more women to get to know us on a global scale.
We absolutely love the US and from the amount of interests we’ve been receiving prior and since our NYFW showcase, we could definitely see the strong potential for our brand to flourish there. We are also looking into opening our very first flagship store in Sydney within the next year also, then we would like to work towards becoming a fashion franchise business by taking one step at a time. We just can’t wait to see more and more women wearing our label and feel empowered by it.
