The Discussion Reveals Interesting Aspects of Travel
Naomi, also known as Authentic Chica on social media, loves to travel and has posted about her many adventures online. She also has an eye for fashion. Along with traveling, she owns a PR and Marketing agency.
Here is an introduction in Naomi’s very own words:
“My name is Naomi, aka ‘Authentic Chica’ on social media, which means as much as a girl
who likes to travel authentic, yet also chic. Who loves to explore in style, while keeping it real,
and prefers her accommodations comfortable and luxurious, but always with character, a
special story and heritage.
I live in the Netherlands and have worked in fashion and marketing the past 18 years in
different roles at big companies and brands, before I started my own PR & Marketing agency
3 years ago.
I have a huge passion for traveling, a lust for exploring, and an eye for beautiful things, which
I love to capture on camera, and I try to collect as many moments as possible along the way. I
love to share these, with in-depth info and personal tips on my website, Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest to inspire like-minded travelers.”
What have been some of your favorite places that you have visited and what
has been the most appealing about them?
That’s such a hard question because there’s just too much beauty on this planet! I love
nature, exploring, but luxury as well, that’s why our visit to 3 Islands on the Maldives was the
perfect trip for me. And even though the accommodations there are ultra-luxe, romantic, and
perfect for relaxing, we did lots of exciting things as well, such as a dolphin-spotting boat
tour, a sunset cruise on a private catamaran, and of course lots of snorkeling. The marine life
there is extraordinary, very diverse and we saw many sharks and sea turtles there in just a
single dive. The beaches are whiter than white, the islands represent pure paradise and the
atolls are gorgeous from above! And because they are situated below sea level this
destination’s existence is threatened and certainly a must-visit while you still can!
But I also loved ziplining through the jungle of Mauritius, visiting ‘a world in one country’
with our road trip through South Africa, and celebrating Christmas with 38 degrees Celsius in
Costa Rica, combined with New Year’s Eve in -10 degrees in New York City!
What do you look for in a place that you visit?
It depends on the time of year, my mood and also if I go there for work or holiday.
I travel a lot for tourism board campaigns, my website, and social media promotions, on
average 10-12 times a year, including a few holidays. But in general, I only travel to
destinations that I really wanted to visit already, or are quite unknown. I like to travel off the
beaten path, explore the authentic side of a destination and all it has to offer. I love nature,
but architecture, history, heritage, and Unesco Sites as well.
I try to avoid overcrowded and popular places like Santorini, instead, I prefer to visit lesser-known Greek islands. But of course, some places like Lisbon and Dubrovnik are unique and popular must-visits and some of my favorite cities!
With your website, what do you wish to express through your posts to readers
about certain locations?
I try to inspire others by sharing genuine tips and give real advice, based on my own
experiences and honest opinions.
I try to focus on unique destinations, spots, and accommodations while discovering the
authenticity and heritage of each place. I also want to show people that you don’t have to
choose; it is possible to travel in style, while exploring, and you can stay at unique hotels,
which are luxurious, but still have a special story, history, and heritage.
Furthermore, I want to refute the assumption that you should become a backpacker, or drive
around in a camper van if you want to explore the world and like road trips.
What are some places that you have never visited but wanted to? What aspects
of them make you want to go?
I’m very flexible in destinations, because I like contrasts, and am open to many different
types of trips. I would, however, love to visit all 7 continents. I still haven’t been to Antarctica
and South America, so these are definitely at the top of the list.
Therefore a combined trip from the Iguazu Falls to Buenos Aires, Patagonia, Antarctica, Chile
and drive to the North of Argentina would be the perfect combination of a road trip, city trip,
nature, adventure along with exploring heritage, architecture and culture!
But because I love tropics and islands as well, I would also love to sail the Caribbean, visit
Hawaii, and on the way back pass by French Polynesia and New Zealand. And of course, I
would try to combine this with a visit to Japan as well. The list is endless!
When traveling, what do you wish to learn about the people and their
I like to learn more about their history and heritage. What are the differences between our
cultures and what helped shape this? What’s the history and psychology behind their current
ways and why do they have certain customs? This fascinates me and can be discovered in
architecture, street art, and other artistic expressions and traditions, which can teach you
much about a destination, the people, and their history.
Along with travel, what else interests you?
My PR & Marketing agency: Authentic Chic Travel & Lifestyle, for which I do a lot of
consultancy and social media management for other brands and companies. I like to think about
concepts and create effective online and social media marketing campaigns to help brands
and destinations be more successful online and reach the right target group.
Next to that photography is another passion of mine, for which my blog and social media
channels, especially Instagram, are the perfect outlets.
And offline I love to go into nature, and be creative through sculpting and painting, it keeps
me grounded, calms down my mind, and helps me to express myself in a more pure and
What do you hope to accomplish in the future?
To stay balanced in work and life, keep inspiring others while staying true to myself, and do
what I love. I started my website, social media accounts, and my agency because I wanted to
truly follow my passion, work less, share my expertise while being able to help, and inspire
others as well.
I’m blessed to say that after 18 years of working very hard for big companies and brands, this
worked out very well, and I was able to make my hobby into my job! But the challenge of
staying balanced remains.
Next to traveling and seeing as much of the world as possible, I want to stimulate others to
pursue their passions as well, to get the most out of life, and appreciate all that the world has
to offer. That’s why I also give private consults and work with start-ups, freelancers,
destinations, hotels and, brands on customized campaigns and projects.
I would love to keep doing that, and certainly don’t take this for granted! But most of all I
want to stay happy, healthy and hope I can keep inspiring others!
