IN THE SPRING/SUMMER ’18 RELEASE OF THE 7TH MAGAZINE’S EXCLUSIVITY ISSUE, WE SHARE THE Fashion & Style FEATURED Cover – Furne One Amato of Amato Couture. His EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW FOLLOWS –
The word ‘Amato'” is derived from Italian as ‘Beloved’ – how does this translate into you as a fashion designer?
Amato means ‘beloved’ in Italian. My brand is like my child. I’ve been taking care of it, nurturing, molding and developing it through the years. It’s my most precious possession and my greatest achievement.
Your creativity is inspired by your mother and grandmother’s quintessential style, define how this has been prominent throughout this collection in the Exclusivity issue?
Both these women have influenced me through the years. I think all of my collections possess their spirit. This collection is no different. My pieces embody not only beauty, grace and femininity but also strength and confidence – all characteristics of both my mother and grandmother.
Amato’s uniqueness is best defined as a visual directory, which romantic Shakespearean tales in particular have influenced the design of your collections?
Midsummer night’s dream. The elements of fantasy and romance with a hint of darkness has fueled my imagination throughout many collections.
How has your style evolved out of a different era to the sensual styling of Mata Hari meeting modern Space Sirens since 2002?
My collections have always possessed that element of opulence, romance and drama. Recently I’ve injected hints of Pret-a-Porter to keep things fresh and young. I like to evolve with the times and adapt with my audience. Although the themes of my collections change each season, my audience still see that signature Amato Couture touch.
Your collections aren’t for the faint hearted woman, but one who is comfortable in her skin, what types of personas are these?
The Amato woman could be anyone. She’s someone who dares to step out of the box, she stands out in the crowd and a totally unique individual who’s bold and brave in both her life and fashion choices.
What’s next for Furne One Amato Couture?
Last year we opened two new stores in Dubai Design District. One for our recently launched ready-to-wear line and the other for our upscale couture pieces. I’d like to think this is only the beginning of Amato’s expansion from the Middle East to the international market.
Launched in 2002 UAE, Amato, which means ‘beloved’ in Italian, is the brainchild of the much-awarded creative designer Furne One, who partnered with textile expert Rashid Ali, to build this Avant Garde label. From the very first collection, Amato touched a chord with the region’s fashion elite. Inviting UAE’s beautiful women to a style renaissance, Amato broke the glass ceiling through a symphony of style and creativity. Words like ‘inspiring, intriguing and innovative’ are only a few of the compliments showered by Amato’s discerning clientele on Creative Director Furne One.
